Aqara FP2 Presence Sensor Review: The Smart Home Sensor That Finally Knows Youre There

Key Features
mmWave Radar Detection
Senses micro-movements like breathing, so it knows youre there even when youre sitting still. PIR sensors cant do that.
Multi-Zone Mapping
You can split one room into up to 30 zones and trigger different automations based on where someone actually is.
Built-in Lux Sensor
The ambient light sensor means you can build automations that only fire when its dark, without adding another device.
Apple HomeKit, Alexa, Google
Works with every major smart home platform out of the box, including Matter support via the Aqara hub.
Our Experience
We mounted the FP2 on the ceiling of our home office to replace a PIR motion sensor that was turning the lights off every 20 minutes whenever we sat still and typed. The difference was immediate. The FP2 kept the lights on as long as someone was in the room, even when we were just reading.
Setup took about 25 minutes. You need the Aqara app, a decent WiFi signal, and patience for the initial zone mapping. Drawing the zones on screen is a little clunky on mobile, we eventually just used the iPad since the bigger screen made the zones easier to edit.
The real win came when we split the bedroom into two zones, one on each side of the bed. Now the bedside lamp on the empty side doesnt turn on when someones still asleep on the other. Thats the kind of thing PIR sensors just cannot do, and its worth the setup time.

Final Verdict
The FP2 is the first presence sensor we have used that actually replaces a PIR sensor without regression. The multi-zone feature is the killer app. If you have been frustrated by lights turning off on you mid-read or mid-meeting, this fixes that specific problem better than anything else out there.
