The Carabiner Is Not A Gimmick
Earlier Clips had a small loop that only fit thin straps. The Clip 4 uses a proper integrated carabiner with a wide enough gate to go round a bike handlebar, a belt loop, a tent pole or a backpack strap. That one change is why this version stuck around.
IP67 means dust proof and survives being submerged for half an hour. It floats too, which matters if you take it near a pool or a river.
How It Sounds For Its Size
Loud for something this small, and clear in the mids, which makes vocals and podcasts sit well. Bass exists in the way bass exists on any speaker with a driver this size, meaning you get an impression of it rather than any real weight. Outdoors that hardly matters. In a tiled bathroom it sounds better than it has any right to.
Push it to maximum volume and it starts to compress and get harsh. Sit around 80 percent and its fine.
Battery And Charging
Ten hours quoted, and thats at moderate volume. Loud outdoor use is closer to six. USB-C at last, which the Clip 3 did not have, and it takes about three hours from flat.
No speakerphone, no aux input. PartyBoost lets you pair two Clip 4s for stereo, and it does not talk to older JBL models, which catches people out.
If you want something for a room rather than a trail, the Echo Dot is the cheaper indoor option.
Final Verdict
A fun little Bluetooth speaker that punches above its size. Clip it to a backpack, hang it in the shower, or toss it in a beach bag. Sound is surprisingly full for something this small. Not a replacement for a proper speaker at home but as a portable companion its one of the best options out there.
