Key Features

📡

Wi-Fi 7 Tri-Band

BE19000 across 6 GHz, 5 GHz, and 2.4 GHz with 4096-QAM and 320 MHz channels for the new 6 GHz devices.

10 Gig Wired Backhaul

Two 10 Gbps ports per unit. You can run a wired backhaul between nodes or plug a 10G NAS straight into the router.

🏠

Whole-Home Mesh

A 2-pack covers about 7,800 sq ft. The third unit handles workshops, garages, or two-floor brick homes that need real range.

🛡️

HomeShield Security

Built-in network-level filtering, parental controls, and IoT scanning. Works without a paid subscription for the basic tier.

Our Experience

We replaced an older Deco X90 setup with two BE85 units in a 2,400 sq ft single-story house. Setup ran through the Deco app in about 12 minutes start to finish, including the firmware update both units pulled before going online. That’s faster than the X90 onboarding we remember from a couple years ago.

The headline number with Wi-Fi 7 is the 6 GHz band, and on a Pixel 9 Pro we measured 1.7 Gbps down within 8 feet of the router. Drop to 30 feet through a wall and that fell to about 720 Mbps — still way past anything Wi-Fi 6 ever delivered for us. Older 5 GHz devices kept their normal speeds and didn’t seem confused by the band steering.

What really sells the BE85 is the wired side. The 10 Gbps WAN port matters if you’re on a multi-gig fiber plan, and the second 10G LAN feeds a NAS without bottlenecking. For most homes, this is the only router you’ll need to buy this decade.

Pros & Cons

What We Liked

  • Genuine Wi-Fi 7 6 GHz speeds, not marketing fluff
  • Two 10 Gbps ports per node — rare at this price
  • Setup takes 10 to 15 minutes total
  • HomeShield basic tier doesn’t require a subscription

Worth Knowing

  • Towers are tall — they need real shelf clearance
  • Most current devices can’t saturate Wi-Fi 7 yet
  • Advanced HomeShield features sit behind a paid plan

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need Wi-Fi 7 devices to benefit?

No. The BE85 still delivers strong Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E performance for older devices, plus the 10 Gbps wired ports help any device on Ethernet.

Can I run a wired backhaul between units?

Yes. Connect any of the 10 Gbps or 2.5 Gbps ports between nodes and the Deco app will detect and prefer the wired backhaul automatically.

Does it replace my ISP router?

Yes if your ISP gear is just a router. If your ISP uses a combined modem/router, set that into bridge or pass-through mode and let the BE85 handle routing.

How does it compare to the Deco BE63?

The BE85 has more total throughput (BE19000 vs BE10000), dual 10G ports per node, and broader 320 MHz coverage on 6 GHz. The BE63 is the value pick if you don’t need 10G wiring.

Final Verdict

The Deco BE85 is the easiest Wi-Fi 7 mesh to recommend if you want to upgrade once and forget about your network for the next five years. The 10 Gbps wired ports alone make it stand out from cheaper Wi-Fi 7 systems that cap out at 2.5 Gbps.

If you’re on gigabit fiber or just want headroom for the next wave of devices, this is the system to buy.
