Mobile Pixels Duex Float 2 Pro Review: A Stacked Portable Monitor That Actually Makes Sense
Most portable monitors sit beside your laptop and make you swivel your neck all day. The Duex Float 2 Pro stacks above the screen instead, which sounds like a gimmick until you use it for an afternoon.
The specs
16 inches, 2560 x 1600, 120Hz, 8ms response. Covers 100% sRGB. Brightness tops out at 350 nits with a 1200:1 contrast ratio, so its fine indoors and struggles in direct sun the way every portable panel does.
It measures 0.7 inches thick unfolded and weighs 2.9 pounds. Mobile Pixels says thats 20% thinner and 33% lighter than the first Duex Float. A single USB-C cable carries video and power.
How it mounts
Four magnets stick it to the back of a MacBook lid. Theres a kickstand built in if you’d rather stand it up on its own. Three viewing modes, and the floating one is the whole reason to pick this over a cheaper side mount panel.
The speakers are an afterthought
It has stereo speakers. They arent good. Use your laptop’s or a pair of earbuds and pretend the feature isnt there.
$399 is a lot of money
That’s the sticking point. A plain 15 inch 1080p portable monitor runs under $120. Youre paying for the stacked position, the 2.5K panel and the 120Hz. If you work on a laptop all day and your neck aches by 4pm, that math works. If you just need a second window open now and then, it really doesnt.
