SwitchBot Lock Pro: A Smart Deadbolt That Fits Over Your Existing Lock

No Drilling, No Replacing Your Lock
Most smart locks make you rip out your entire deadbolt and install a new one. The SwitchBot Lock Pro skips all of that. It sticks onto the inside of your existing deadbolt with 3M adhesive and a mounting plate. Took about 10 minutes to set up, and thats including fumbling with the calibration.
The motor sits on the inside of the door and physically turns your existing thumb turn. From outside, your door looks completely normal. Nobody would know you have a smart lock unless you told them. Thats a big deal for renters or anyone who doesnt want to mess with their hardware.
How You Unlock It
You get a bunch of options here. The SwitchBot app on your phone is the main one. Bluetooth range is solid, about 20 to 30 feet through one wall. If you pair it with a SwitchBot Hub (sold separately), you get remote access from anywhere and voice control through Alexa or Google Home.
Theres also an optional keypad accessory for PIN codes, NFC cards, and even fingerprint unlock. The fingerprint reader is fast, maybe half a second to recognize. Auto lock kicks in after a set timer so you dont have to worry about forgetting to lock up when you leave.
Battery Life and Build
Runs on two CR123A batteries. SwitchBot claims about 9 months of battery life with normal use. Based on about 6 weeks of testing with maybe 8 to 10 locks and unlocks per day, the battery indicator hasnt budged. The motor is quieter than I expected, just a soft whir when it turns the lock.
What Could Be Better
You really need a SwitchBot Hub to get the full experience. Without one, you are limited to Bluetooth range. Thats fine if you just want to unlock from your couch, but remote access and voice control require the hub. Adds another $50 to the total cost.
The 3M adhesive holds well on smooth surfaces but if your door has a textured finish it might not stick as securely. SwitchBot includes screws as a backup option but then you are drilling into your door frame anyway.
The Lock Pro is the best option for anyone who wants a smart lock without replacing their deadbolt. Install is dead simple, the motor is reliable, and the unlock options are solid. Just budget for a Hub if you want the full smart home experience.
