Key Features

🔊

Big Sound, Tiny Body

JBL Pro Sound pushes surprisingly full audio from a speaker that fits in your palm. Bass actually hits for something this small.

🏔️

Built-In Carabiner

The integrated metal clip hooks onto bags, belt loops, or tent poles. Its sturdier than the Clip 4’s version and doesn’t feel flimsy.

💧

IP67 Waterproof

Fully waterproof and dustproof. We’ve had it in the shower, at the pool, and caught in rain. No issues.

🔋

12 Hour Battery

Gets through a full day of on-and-off listening. Real world use lands closer to 10 hours at moderate volume, which is still great.

Our Experience

The JBL Clip 5 is one of those products that just works and keeps working. We clipped it to a daypack for two weeks of daily use, hiking, coffee runs, desk time, and a couple backyard hangouts. For a speaker you can literally hook to your shorts pocket, the volume output is kind of ridiculous. It fills a small room without distortion and holds up outdoors where wind usually kills smaller speakers.

Compared to the Clip 4, the biggest upgrades are the redesigned carabiner (feels way more solid now) and slightly improved low end. The mids are clear for podcasts and vocals, though dont expect audiophile quality, its a $60 travel speaker and it sounds like a good one. Bluetooth 5.3 connects fast and holds a stable connection up to about 30 feet in open space.

One gripe: theres no aux input. If your phone dies, the speaker is useless. Also no speakerphone function, which the older models had. JBL dropped that feature and some people miss it. But for pure music playback on the go, this is hard to beat at the price.

Pros & Cons

What We Liked

  • Sound quality punches above its size and price
  • Carabiner is genuinely useful, not just a design gimmick
  • IP67 means you really dont have to baby it
  • Eco-friendly: made partly from recycled materials

Worth Knowing

  • No aux input, Bluetooth only
  • No speakerphone function (older Clips had it)
  • Bass can distort slightly at max volume outdoors

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you pair two JBL Clip 5 speakers together?

Yes, JBL Auracast lets you pair multiple compatible JBL speakers for stereo or party mode. Works well in practice.

How does it compare to the JBL Go 4?

The Clip 5 has better bass and the carabiner for portability. The Go 4 is slightly smaller and cheaper but doesn’t clip to things. Pick based on whether you need the clip.

Does it float?

No, it sinks. Its waterproof enough to survive a dunk in the pool but dont drop it in a lake expecting to fish it out easily.

Final Verdict

The JBL Clip 5 nails the formula it’s been refining for five generations now. For $60 you get a waterproof, clip-anywhere speaker that sounds better than most people expect from something this small. The 12 hour battery means you charge it once and forget about it for days. Missing the aux jack and speakerphone stings a little, but if your main use case is clipping it to a bag and having music wherever you go, this is the one. At this price theres really nothing that combines sound quality, durability, and portability better.
